Event Mobile App
INTRODUCTION
Leading and successful implementation of event app UX improvements, relying on experience based on design and delivery of 15+ event apps.
MY ROLE
-
Leading the app transformation process, organizing workshops with developers and managers;
-
Working on reconciliation of the business needs, client's requests and user experience;
-
Project management, product testing, promotion and documenting the product usage by users/customers.
SITUATION
Request for an extensive layout upgrade came in during the late stage of refurbishing an app and other web-based services. A functional MVP should have been complete in time for the upcoming event, along with the light testing.
CURRENT PROJECT STATE
-
Existing app with UI elements that have already been used
-
Organizer's request to improve the event app so it makes serious difference
-
Developers trying to get time to completely rebuild the app
-
Multiple additional features already negotiated with the client
CHALLENGES
-
Already having the uniformed process that goes smoothly
-
People are used to the existing layout
-
Lack of time
-
Uncertainty in regard with the feasibility of production
APPROACH
There was no time for a comprehensive research and we needed to react immediately based on our knowledge and assumptions.
WIREFRAMES & SCREENS
Initial drawings aren't always perfect, but their purpose is to quickly communicate complex solutions and get everyone on the same page with the topic.

The most significant change was introduced on the Event App Homepage that was previously static with only minor background animation.
BEFORE

NEW CONCEPT

APP STRUCTURE
This is the initial app structure that helped us understand the scope of the project and the Information Architecture.

FINAL SCREENS
Following are the Android screens applied to a specific event for which client requested color coding and other adjustments.

IMPACT
Measured by the follow-up Survey
On Users:
-
App lifecycle has finally been defined - as an integrated part of the Organizer's app, the separate event app doesn't have to exist anymore once the event is finished and Users need to install only one app from now on and are able to access all the previous and future content within;
-
Users got much better access to more event information in a recognizable form - news feed;
-
Standard percentage of registered users - around 40% of total number of Users on both iOS and Android (~4000 - 4500).
On Business:
Massive UI/UX changes justified the product value increase;
Organizer confirmed to use this collective event app for all the upcoming events.
